The African Fjord provides vital support and infrastructure during offshore construction, modification, and maintenance activities. Its flat-bottom design makes it ideally suited for operations in calm waters, such as those off the coasts of Africa, the Middle East, and various other regions with similar marine conditions. In addition to its support capabilities, the African Fjord offers ample laydown areas for equipment and materials.

The barge is catenary anchored and is typically moored in benign waters. It is sometimes positioned alongside offshore platforms, where it is safely connected via a gangway to enable secure personnel transfer.
